Youngest Ever MNA, Mubarak Zeb Khan, Charts Vision for Bajaur’s Future

Mubarak Zeb Khan, an independent candidate from Bajaur, has recently garnered significant attention due to his remarkable political victories in 2024. Emerging from a humble background in the village of Haya Sari in Salarzai, Bajaur, Zeb Khan made history as the youngest-ever Member of the National Assembly (MNA) at the age of 25. His rise to prominence followed the tragic assassination of his brother, Rehan Zeb Khan, a staunch Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker, just before the February 2024 general elections.

Zeb Khan secured his position through by-elections in the NA-8 (National Assembly) and PK-22 (Provincial Assembly) constituencies, decisively defeating prominent political opponents. In the NA-8 election, he secured 74,002 votes, significantly ahead of his closest rival, Gul Zafar Khan of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), who obtained 47,282 votes. Similarly, in the PK-22 constituency, he won with 23,386 votes, while Abid Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami came in second.

Mubarak Zeb Khan’s political journey has been fueled by the support of his late brother’s followers and PTI workers, many of whom campaigned for him out of respect for Rehan Zeb’s memory. His victory was seen not only as a personal achievement but also as a tribute to his brother’s legacy. Throughout his campaign, Zeb Khan emphasized his commitment to justice for his brother’s killers and laid out a vision for Bajaur’s development.

Zeb Khan’s platform centers on the improvement of local infrastructure, the establishment of educational institutions (with a particular focus on girls’ education), and the overall revitalization of Bajaur. He has pledged to work toward enhancing the region’s connectivity, including road construction and the establishment of new schools and colleges, especially in the less-developed areas like Tehsil Barang.

Despite his young age, Zeb Khan has shown remarkable political acumen. While running as an independent candidate, he has not ruled out future alignments with political parties. He has expressed admiration for PTI’s vision and aims to consult with his constituents before making any political moves, with the potential to affiliate with a party that aligns with Bajaur’s interests.

His victory marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Bajaur, demonstrating the power of grassroots support and independent candidates in challenging established political entities. Looking forward, Zeb Khan aims to create lasting change in Bajaur by advancing the region’s economic and educational prospects, fulfilling the promises made during his campaign.
